Drawing heavily from the horse figurines atop an ancient Greek Pyxis, or jar for personal items, with a team of four horses as the handle. The jar dates back to 700 BCE and likely denoted wealth, as horses required money and time to train them.
The horse is decorated with dark clay slip and is rough to the touch. It stands 9.5cm tall from hoof to mane.
