Named after the feeling of savouring a morning tea with a favourite mug, Stay Awhile Ceramics is centred around creating functional yet intentional ceramics that feel lived-in, with personality and character, like your favourite used book with folded corners and a cracked spine.
My pottery journey began 10 years ago with a wheel throwing class in Vancouver when I was working in professional kitchens as a pastry cook. Working with my hands was already second nature to me from a few years in kitchens, but pottery opened up a much different way to be creative, while still retaining a connection to food. Instead of thinking of what I was going to put on the plate, I started thinking about what I wanted the plate to look and feel like. After a few stops and starts, I started to consistently work on my skills in Revelstoke, BC when I had access to their community pottery studio. After a move to the island and a couple years throwing pots in my moms basement, I found a shared studio in Victoria to work in and moved my janky purple-and-yellow wheel into the big bright space you see here. I’ve honed my style to what feels authentic and meaningful, with many pieces based in the love of spending an evening cooking and the connection we create over sharing a meal.
I hope you see what I see in my pieces.
