Black Vase 3

I threw a beautifully curved vase with a delicate narrow neck. It was soft and smooth and I initially wanted to keep it like that, highlight it, accentuate it.

But then I had a day where my feelings were hurt and I was left feeling raw. I went back to the vase and I turned that delicate beauty into what I was feeling - jagged, torn apart, full of sharp edges and cracked bits, anything but soft and beautiful. I had never done that with my ceramics before. It took what was inside and forced it out. It helped.

And now that the hurt has passed, I have this incredible vase that was born out of that depth of feeling. I’m a bit hesitant to part with it, but I know that this ragged yet stunning piece will resonate with someone. It will become part of their journey, just like it was part of mine.

The neck is extremely narrow and can only accommodate thin stems such as grass, or one singular stem.

The vase stands 22.5 cm tall.
